Perfect for Summer: Cutout Dresses

Hi Guys, & happy Wednesday!

I've been swooning over the romance of cutout dresses lately. NO! I'm not thinking of this kind of dress. I'm thinking of the more refined variety. Trust me, you can {and should!} totally rock this look!

I'm into it because it's sweet and just a little sexy. Plus, it's kind of a surprise because with a lot of these dresses the front is conservative, making the cutout even more unexpected. Perfect for a date night or a weekend getaway with friends.

DIY: Ruffled Dot Wall Art

Hi Guys! Happy Wednesday!

I'm here today to share a cute little wall hanging DIY. I am constantly looking for cool art to add to the wall in my living room. I haven't hung anything on the wall yet because I'm waiting until I have the perfect collection {and I've lived here for a year and a half!}

To complete this wall hanging you will need:
  • 1 canvas, your choice of size {I used a tiny 4x4 canvas}
  • 3 different fabrics in various shades of your color choice {a great project for scraps!}
  • fabric glue or otherwise all purpose glue
  • scissors
  • a little bit of patience
Step 1:
Cut out all your little circles. My circles ranged from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter. As I cut out the circles I placed them on the canvas so that I could watch the canvas fill up and judge how many more I needed to cut. It's definitely not an exact science!

Step 2:
Clear your canvas and get out the glue. I just put a small dot of glue at the top of each fabric dot and placed them individually on the canvas. Each row overlaps the row before it, creating some texture and movement...a ruffle effect, if you will.

Step 3:
Continue gluing, and cut more circles as needed. I did my rows light to dark to create a variegated look...but I think a monochromatic would be cool too.

Enjoy!

DIY: Simple Stripe Pillow

Hi Guys! & Happy Wednesday! Today I wanted to share a QUICK DIY that I put together tonight...literally typing the instructions is taking longer than this took to make!

To make this project you will need:
2 pieces of background fabric - 18 inches square
1 stripe - 1.5 inches x 36 inches
1 stripe - 2.5 inches x 18 inches
1 stripe - 3.5 inches x 18 inches
Fiberfill or pillow form
Plus, the usual sewing machine, scissors, thread, straight pins, etc.

To make your own simple stripe pillow, choose fabrics, patterns, and textures that appeal to you! {That's the most important part!}

Step 1:
Take your base/background fabric and cut it to the desired size. I just used a pillow cover that I already had lying around.

Step 2:
Cut your strips (er, stripes!)...dimensions shown above.

Step 3:
Place the 3.5 inch stripe on your background fabric first. When you are happy with the placement, put the 2.5 inch strip on top of it. Secure into place with straight pins.

Step 4:
Next, sew a straight line a 1/4 inch from the edge on both sides (and on your stripes!). This will secure the two stripes into place, and my bottom stripe ended up have a nice little pucker to it.

Step 5:
Then take your longer 1.5 inch (a.k.a skinny stripe) and pin one end in place. Then work your fabric to create pleats (it's kind of like making a paper fan!) and pin each pleat in place.

Step 6:
Sew straight down the middle of your skinny stripe to secure your pleats.

Step 7:
Place right sides of your background fabric together, pin, and sew a 1/4 of an inch seam all the way around but make sure to leave an opening so that you can turn it right side out and put your stuffing in. (sorry for the horrible picture, daylight was fading fast!)

Step 8:
Turn right side out. (tip: use a cuticle stick or similar sharp object to push your corners out so they are tidy!)

Step 9:
Fill with fiberfill or pillow form or other stuffing of your choice and close it up! To close that opening you can hand stitch it shut, use adhesive velcro, or even glue it!

Now that this is finished, I think it would be supppppper cute on decorative pillow cases for my new bed. I'm just dying to try that out! Also, I think washing it would fray the fabric more...I'm all about texture :)

Happy crafting!

Jewelry as Delicious as Dessert!

Happy Wednesday!

To answer the question of the week (how you like your easter eggs?): I think as a kid I liked the plastic ones best when they were filled with: reeses peanut butter cups, starburst jelly beans, or money! I do like deviled eggs, too (my dad makes the best ones!)

Today I wanted to share some ideas for keeping your jewelry organized. Up until about a month ago I had the biggest problem leaving my jewelry laying around...in the kitchen discarded before doing dishes...on the tv stand when I get home from work...and in the bathroom before taking a shower...the list goes on and I live in a studio apartment people! This has changed my life:

I LOVE the idea of taking a tiered dessert tray and turning it into a place to hold all of your baubles. I think this would make a great display in a home or in a store (note to self). Here are just a couple of the ones I am drooling over today (who doesn't love milk glass?):

I have the strongest urge to buy this lace one and spray paint it a delicious shade of robin's egg blue...just in time for Easter, and Spring! You can click the images to go directly to the websites to purchase. Prices range from $20-$50 dollars.

If you try out this project or find another jewelry organize to call your own, please comment and link to photos, and if I can't resist the urge to buy this little lace one, I'll be sure to let you know how my own project goes.

Happy Easter!

Spring 2010 Comin' Atcha!

Hi Guys! My name is Kate and I'm the little yellow owl with the cutest pink bow you've ever seen. I think all the girls will blog about style in some sense or another...but it's going to be my job to really focus on it!

In life, you can find me at Undeniable Style, where I write mostly about, yep...you got it, style.

A Little About Me: I’ve been addicted to style in every shape and form for as long as I can remember...even bad 90's style, it's true. Twenty-something residing in San Francisco. Totally into flea markets, vintage finds, salvage yards, and the concept that everything old is new again. Love: black and white movies, Chanel Allure, and serendipitous moments. Obsessed with crafting/quilting/sewing/creating. I’m generally anti-1980’s apparel and decor.

Today I want to share a couple of my favorite up and coming trends of spring 2010.

FLORAL - To be honest, I'm not really a flowery person {could you tell?!}, but I am excited to incorporate some vintage and fresh florals into my everyday attire.

AND

MIX and MATCH - I loveLOVElove this trend! I don't think it will ever go away for me. It's so liberating to be able to pair florals with stripes, dots with plaids, etc. Kind of the same way I felt when I realized you can effortlessly wear both black and brown...

I hope you'll stay tuned for some amazing stories and DIYS! Welcome :)
